| The Shop That Never Was |
Let's continue:
"It's in your pocket," said the shopman, and there it was.
"এটা তোমার পকেটে আছে," দোকানদার বলল, আর এটা তো আছেই।
"How much does it cost?"I asked.
"এর দাম কত?" আমি জিজ্ঞাসা করলাম।
"There is no charge for glass balls," said the shopman politely.
"কাঁচের বলের জন্য কোন চার্জ নেই," দোকানদার বিনয়ের সাথে বলল।
"We get them free."
"আমরা এগুলো বিনামূল্যে পাই।"
He drew a business card from his cheek and handed it to me.
সে তার গাল থেকে একটা বিজনেস কার্ড বের করে আমার হাতে দিল।
"Genuine Magic Goods, sir, "he said.
"আসল ম্যাজিক গুডস, স্যার," সে বলল।
He now turned towards Gip with a friendly smile and said, "You wanted a magic box, didn't you?"
সে এবার বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ হাসি দিয়ে জিপের দিকে ফিরে বলল, "তুমি একটা ম্যাজিক বাক্স চেয়েছিলে, তাই না?"
"Yes," Gip said.
"হ্যাঁ," জিপ বলল।
"It's in your pocket," he said.
"এটা তোমার পকেটে আছে," সে বলল।
Gip discovered the box with surprise.
জিপ অবাক হয়ে বাক্সটি আবিষ্কার করল।
Then the shop man quickly went behind the counter and was absent for a while.
তারপর দোকানদার দ্রুত কাউন্টারের পিছনে চলে গেল এবং কিছুক্ষণের জন্য অনুপস্থিত রইল।
"Let's look behind the counter, Gip," I said.
"চলো কাউন্টারের পিছনে তাকাই, জিপ," আমি বললাম।
"He's making fun of us."
"সে আমাদের নিয়ে মজা করছে।"
Just then, he appeared again from a dark corner of the room.
ঠিক তখনই, ঘরের এক অন্ধকার কোণ থেকে সে আবার হাজির হল।
"You'd like to see our showroom, Sir?" said he.
"আপনি আমাদের শোরুম দেখতে চান, স্যার?" সে বলল।
Gip tugged my finger forward.
জিপ আমার আঙুল সামনের দিকে টেনে ধরল।
In the showroom, there were many things that Gip fancied.
শোরুমে, গিপের অনেক কিছু কল্পনা করা ছিল।
He turned to this astonishing man with respect.
সে এই আশ্চর্যজনক লোকটির দিকে শ্রদ্ধার সাথে ফিরে গেল।
"Is that a magic sword?" he said.
"এটা কি জাদুর তরবারি?" সে বলল।
"A Magic Toy Sword-this is a unique one!
"একটি জাদুর খেলনা তরবারি - এটি একটি অনন্য!
It neither bends, breaks, nor cuts the fingers," replied the shopman.
এটি বাঁকায় না, ভাঙে না, আঙুল কাটে না," দোকানদার উত্তর দিল।
I tried to find out what they cost, but the shopman did not pay attention to me.
আমি এর দাম কত তা জানার চেষ্টা করলাম, কিন্তু দোকানদার আমার দিকে মনোযোগ দিল না।
He had got Gip now.
সে এখন জিপকে ধরে ফেলেছে।
I saw, with a feeling of distrust, that Gip was holding this person's finger as usually he held mine.
আমি অবিশ্বাসের অনুভূতিতে দেখলাম যে গিপ এই ব্যক্তির আঙুল ধরে আছে যেমনটি সে সাধারণত আমার আঙুল ধরেছিল।
The shopman showed Gip magic-trains that ran without steam, clockwork and a box of soldiers that all came alive when one said a magic word.
দোকানদার জিপকে জাদুর ট্রেন দেখাল যা বাষ্প, ঘড়ির কাঁটা এবং সৈন্যদের একটি বাক্স ছাড়াই চলে যেগুলি একজন যাদু শব্দ বললেই প্রাণবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে।
"You've never seen such a one!" said the shopman.
"তুমি এমন একটি কখনও দেখোনি!" দোকানদার বলল।
"You'll take that box?"
"তুমি ঐ বাক্সটি নেবে?"
"We'll take that box," I said.
"আমরা ঐ বাক্সটি নেব," আমি বললাম।
And the shopman swept the soldiers back again, shut the lid, and waved the box in the air.
এবং দোকানদার সৈন্যদের আবার ফিরিয়ে আনল, ঢাকনা বন্ধ করে দিল এবং বাক্সটি বাতাসে নাড়ল।
And there it was, in brown paper, tied up and with Gip's full name and address on the paper.
আর সেখানেই ছিল, বাদামী কাগজে, বাঁধা এবং কাগজে জিপের পুরো নাম এবং ঠিকানা লেখা।
He laughed at my amazement.
আমার বিস্ময় দেখে সে হেসে উঠল।
